When Steam Passenger Service (Almost) Returned To The O&W in 1974

Please join me in welcoming Steve Cohen as our newest author to the site. Steve is one of our biggest advocates, especially with his expertise and donations to our Archives facility. I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Steve in person yet but we have been e-mailing each other for the past week or so and it has been a pleasure working with him. Many of you may know the Cohen name as Steve is the son of the late Marv Cohen who was a personal friend to many of us. Marv was heavily involved with the Historical Society of Middletown & Wallkill Precinct, and a legend in the railroad community.

One thing worth noting in this article is the inclusion of the builders photo of the Trujillo which would have been the engine to run on the Ontario & Western Scenic Railroad. Steve had to fill out an application and purchase the photo from the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, as the only copy we had was low-res and had a watermark across it. They were very swift in getting back to him and you will see this wonderful photo cleaned up at the top of page two. This photo below is probably the first time it has ever been seen by the public as originally scanned.

Thank you Steve and here’s to hopefully many more articles in the future!

P.S. You can now e-mail Steve at his new OntarioExpress e-mail address: SteveCohen@OntarioExpress.org
