I first met this rabid railfan while on a walking tour of a unique location on the railroad.
He was a young, smart and had extensive knowledge of the Old & Weary, way beyond his years.
I took an immediate liking to him and got to be best friends with him in a very short period of time.
As the years went by I saw him turn into an avid a knowledgeable historian contributing to several Observers and presenter of many PowerPoint programs. He also acquired an extensive collector of railroadiana with a major part of it focusing on the NYO&W.
Well the place we hiked to was the north portal of the Highview Tunnel during one of the Mamakating Railroad Days and that young kid was none other than Joseph Senese.
I hereby present the John Hobbs Chryn award for Member of the year to the man who hiked with me on that day, our President, Joseph Senese.- Ron Vassallo
P.S. I just want to add to this that Joey has taken the Society to a new level. Through his forwarding think he has helped us bring Zoom to our Membership, held multiple Middletown Railroad Days, co-sponsored car trips along the O&W, and gone above and beyond promoting the Society and now iss getting a railfan trip together with VP Alan Held (stay tuned). He now joins an elite group of members who have gone above and beyond for the Society and its Members!
