Acid Factory Presentation Notice
On November 14th, Dan Myers, a Trustee of the Ontario and Western Railway Historical Society, will present a program on the Acid Factories, a vital industry that once dominated our local landscape.
The Wood Chemical, or “Acid Factory” business, played an important role in the early development of the Catskills. Starting with the secret “Scotch Works” of 1848, the business grew to cover most of Sullivan and Delaware Counties with as many as thirty factories operating regionally.
Come learn about the factories, the towns that rose in support of the plants, the people and the relationship the O&W Railway had with this early industry. The presentation will be held 7:00 PM in Hancock’s Read Memorial Library.
